#37: How I ended up with unpaid property taxes

I received a letter about unpaid property taxes and nearly died! As someone who stays on top of my finances, imagine my shock when they told me how much I owe in unpaid property taxes. On my house? No way!

Unpaid property taxes (also known as delinquent property taxes) are a sure way to get your house taken and put into foreclosure. No one wants that, especially if it's their first and primary house - like mine.

For background, I pay my taxes through escrow - meaning that I make my principal, interest, property taxes, AND insurance through my monthly mortgage payment. They are responsible for collecting their portion (principal and interest) and then moving the rest (property taxes and insurance) to escrow for when it’s time to make the annual payment.

So a whole year went by and I had no idea that I owed unpaid taxes until I received a letter. In this video, I will walk you through how I got on top of my bank, how I connected with the tax assessors (they handle property taxes), and about 6 tips that I recommend you follow/implement so you don’t end up with unpaid property taxes.
