There’s so much that you don’t learn as a first time home buyer until you get under contract and begin the process toward closing. If you luck up, you are able to connect with an amazing real estate agent like mine who gave me a heads up on a few things.
However, there were still some mistakes I made while my loan was in underwriting - which is when underwriters are reviewing all of your financial documents to make sure things line up and that you can be cleared to close on your home.
As a first-time home buyer, I was shocked at how much back and forth communication she (my underwriter) and I had because I (thought I) had kept a clean record. My finances were organized – but once she called out a deposit that I had sent to another account (that she wasn’t aware of), I knew that closing on my first home would be delayed.
