#26: 5 Things To Know As A First Time Home Buyer (I wish I knew these beforehand!)
According to The National Association of Realtors, "only 41% of first time home buyers recently surveyed say they felt prepared for the homebuying process." That is crazy, and also relatable!
Being a first time home buyer was overwhelming - in a good and bad way. I had already failed through the process once but after taking the time to get my finances together and absorb a lot of first time home buyer advice, I re-entered to housing search and succeeded.
However, what I quickly learned, was that there wasn’t enough information out there for first time home buyers. I didn’t know how my credit score was going to impact my buying a house. I didn’t know that I could calculate my debt-to-income ratio on my own. I didn’t even know that there were other first time home buyer programs out there besides NACA.
I believe that one of the biggest mistakes that first time home buyers make, is that we go to our parents or other people in our community that bought years ago. Real estate changes constantly, and the process they followed has been altered to keep up with the current market.
